On Friday the 19th of May, 5th Class visited the Butler Gallery to be given a tour of the Permanent Collection and visiting collection by local artist Rachel Burke. Rachel showed us famous paintings by local artist Tony O' Malley and his wife Jane. We also saw works from artists like Michael Beirne, Mildred Butler, and Jack G Yeats. We then moved onto and learned about a visiting exhibition called The Disappointed Tourist by Ellen Harvey who asked the public if there was somewhere they would like to visit and see that no longer exists. From public feedback, she recreated these locations, many that now do not exist anymore. Finally, we saw some sculptures outside the Gallery and tried our hand at some sketching, in the beautiful sunshine.
